FAQ

*If you have other questions, please feel free to contact us! *Is this zine for-profit or for charity?
This is a charity zine! Initial funds will go toward production, and any profits will go to a charity voted on by our contributors. We will take suggestions of charities in our interest check.
What can we expect to see in the zine?
We’re aiming for every Leon under the sun: little doe-eyed RE2 Leon, tired RE4 Leon, even more tired RE6 Leon, CG movie Leons, Leon in fun outfits, Leon with cat ears, Leon with friends, Leon with enemies, and maybe (by majority vote in our interest check) WTRC Leon. Angst, hurt/comfort, comedy, and fluff are all up for grabs here.
Will characters other than Leon appear?
This is up to the contributors, but almost definitely! Any other Resident Evil characters may appear as supporting cast in a piece, but Leon will be the main focus overall. OCs may play filler or background parts. We will not include crossovers with other series.
What types of content will/won't be allowed in the zine?
Resident Evil is a horror series, so contributors may create pieces with gore, mentions of trauma, body horror, firearms, and of course death. These depictions are expected to remain in line with the levels seen within the games (e.g. the piece shouldn't have a main focus on guro, but blood splatter, injuries, and unsettling mutations are fine).
Creators may also include personal depictions of character gender, sexuality, and body types. This cannot be the main focus of the piece, but it may receive a mention or reference. Similarly, romantic or sexual relationships (ships) may be mentioned or implied but may not be the main focus of a piece.
We will not allow full nudity or sexual content beyond what you might see in a sexy firefighter calendar. So, yes, don't worry. Leon can be shirtless.
What is the expected pricing?
Depending on the size of the book, it will likely run $20-$30 USD. A full bundle will likely run between $40-$60 USD depending on the amount of and types of additional merch. Sizing and merch will be determined by the results of our interest check. These prices do not include the cost of shipping.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Yes, but you will only be accepted as either an artist or a writer. You may specify if you prefer one over the other.
What is expected from page artists?
Page art is expected to be a fully rendered piece. This may be in grayscale or full color per the artist's preference. Upon request and approval from the mods, spreads (one image across two pages) and short comics may also be accepted. If Leon if featured with friends or enemies in a piece, he does not need to take up the majority of the space, but ideally he’ll be the focus of the art or centered in it.
What is expected from fic writers?
Fics should be between 2,000 and 2,500 words and tell, in some sense, a complete story. You will receive feedback and possible editing suggestions from a beta reader. Writers must also provide a title (sorry).
What is expected from merch artists?
This will partially be determined both by the interest check and what the merch artist is interested in creating. Possibilities include die-cut stickers, kiss-cut sticker sheets, keychains (single or double-sided), enamel pins, postcard prints, bookmarks, digital merch (e.g. emoji sets, phone wallpapers), and more.
Can artists and writers collaborate?
Absolutely! You will have time before finalizing your idea for your piece where you can discuss (whether in the zine Discord or DMs) possible collaborations.
Will contributors receive a free bundle?
Yes! Contributors may pick any and all items they wish to receive up to a full bundle. Shipping will be covered.
Is Discord required?
No. We will not be requiring a Discord for writers and artists to participate in this zine. If you already have a Discord account when your application is accepted, our zine Discord server is the best way to keep track of check-ins and announcements. However, if you don’t have a Discord and don’t want to make one, don’t worry! We’re happy to accommodate that via email.
Will I be allowed to post WIPs on social media?
We ask that you refrain from posting WIPs until we announce that we can begin sharing sneak peeks of our pieces, (i.e., only a snippet of what you have, not the full piece).
Will I be allowed to post my full piece at the end?
Yes! We only ask that you wait until we announce that it’s alright to share our full pieces before you begin posting your completed pieces online.
Will you "screen" applicants? / Will someone be rejected for [x]?
We will not be screening applicants past the portfolios they provide. The content of people's works outside of the zine will not affect acceptances. The only thing that may disqualify someone from participating is direct, verifiable evidence of harassment or harm toward others. While everyone's discomforts, squicks, and triggers will be respected within zine spaces, participants must be comfortable sharing those spaces with artists and writers who may produce outside works that touch those topics.
